About this product
- Product Description: The standard number of ears for a tea whisk is around 70, but the regular ear is around 64. 80 ears for 80 whisks, 81-95 ears for 100 whisks and so on. The 100-hon-dachi has especially many ears, so it is easy for beginners to make fine bubbles.
- When you start to use new Chasen, please rinse it lightly with water using a tub or bowl, and then run it through hot water (Chasen run-through). 2. After using the bamboo whisk, please dry it thoroughly in a well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight and store it in a cool and dark place where temperature and humidity do not change. Bamboo may crack or split due to drying or sudden change in temperature. Dishwasher and dishwashing detergent are not recommended.
- Material》:This is a white bamboo-colored tea container. Made of thin bamboo, chasen is an essential tool for making matcha. It is made of natural bamboo and is safe to use for beginners and intermediate users.
- Size》:About 6cm (diameter) x 11cm (height) *Since each whisk is handmade, there may be individual differences.
- Product Characteristics》:As this is a natural material, there may be individual differences in size, color, and knots. Therefore, please note that the product may differ from the picture. Also, since each piece is handmade, there are individual differences in size and weight.
Selecting the right number of tips for the type of matcha
- The number of hosen refers to the number of tips of the Chasen, the tip of the tea whisk. There are two types of Matcha, Koicha (thick tea) and Usucha (thin tea), and the appropriate number of tips depends on which type of Matcha you are using.
For light green tea, 80 or 100 tips are recommended.
- When we talk about general tea ceremony and matcha, we are mostly referring to “usucha”.
- It takes skill to make a good Usucha with a small number of Chasen, so we recommend that you choose a Chasen with more than 80 whisks. The more tips there are, the finer the foam can be made and the creamier the finish will be.
- There are different types of Chasen such as “kazuho” with 72 tips, “80-hontate” with around 80 tips, “100-hontate” with around 100 tips, and “120-hontate”. As the number of tips increases, the handle becomes thicker and more difficult to handle, so the “hajubondate” and “100-hontate” are easier for beginners to handle. However, there is also the option of choosing a few hondachi in order to improve technique.
